Monica and Mary McWilliams are in Myanmar, formerly Burma, with Irish development agency TrĂ³caire where they write about the plight of ethnic minorities in the country.
We were in Kachin State, in the northern part of Myanmar, at the invitation of TrĂ³caire engaging in a capacity-building workshop as part of the Durable Peace Programme funded by the European Union. The Kachin conflict is one of multiple conflicts collectively referred to as the internal conflict in Myanmar.
